Movie Review and Drone Warning

by Johnny Punish

Okay, so yesterday I was able to see OBLIVION starring Tom Cruise. I saw the trailers and thought, that looks visually stunning and I want to dive in and get lost in the future. Good idea right?

What I did NOT expect was a veiled political statement; whether it was intended or not. But drones killing earthlings: in this case former Americans. Hum?

Now, this flick is an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the visionary director of TRON: Legacy and producers of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. So it has a pedigree! And it does not disappoint.

On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past leads him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

It is 2077 and Jack Harper (Cruise) serves as a security drone repairman stationed on an evacuated Earth. He thinks he’s part of saving mankind from the evil scabs who remain n planet earth helping close out the final chapter and moving the remaining survivors to a lunar colony far from the war-torn world he has long called home.

But all is not what it seems and his journey exposes the truth about planet earth, the universe, and the dangers of a drone existence.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, Jack’s soaring existence is brought crashing down after he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft.

Drawn to Jack through a connection that transcends logic, her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he thought he knew. With a reality that is shattered as he discovers shocking truths that connect him to the Earth of the past, Jack will be pushed to a heroism he didn’t know he contained within.

The fate of humanity now rests solely in the hands of a man who believed our world was soon to be lost forever.

And so as the movie ends, I was left saying…’ now that was cool” but then the mind took over and I started questioning the whole idea of using drones. Granted, in 2013, the US is using drones to kill so-called terrorists in lands far far away so that the American public remains desensitized.

But now, US local enforcement is investing, and soon, coming online is a friendly drone to serve and protect the mean streets of America. But this is only the beginning…it’s only 2013. What will really happen in 20 years, 30 years….40 years? Where is all of this going?
Well, whether the director intended it or not, like Jack Harper, he got this writer thinking, questioning, and looking to save the world before it gets invaded by some reptilian global banksters posing as nationalists who aim to control the world and kill off ja people with their state-sanctioned drones!

Excellent movie …. questionable future! See it now before it’s too late!ย  Duck!
